What does it mean to come home?

Is it a place? A feeling? A moment of stillness in the midst of the storm?

Is it something we carry within us — or something we create for each other?

And how might The Male Journey, as a movement and a brotherhood, help more men to come home to themselves, to their circles, and to the sacred in their lives?

These are the questions that will guide us as we gather once more in Matlock this November.

This past year has been big - for our organisation, for men’s work, and for the world we live in. Since last year’s Moot, much has shifted. We’ve made real progress on the commitments and conversations that emerged then - and new challenges have appeared. Masculinity continues to evolve. The world keeps turning. And the need for men to live with courage, depth, and integrity has never been more urgent.

And so, we return.

Back to the circle.

Back to the Derbyshire hills.

Back to each other.

Back to ourselves.

We come together not to tick off achievements, but to pause. To sit. To breathe. To let our nervous systems settle. To tell the truth about what’s been hard, what’s been beautiful, and what still lies ahead. To come home - in the deepest sense of the word.

At this year’s Moot, we will connect to home inside ourselves, our hearts, our souls. We’ll draw strength through connection to our community and our brotherhood. We’ll share our new Vision and Mission statements, hear from the Trustee and Action Circles, and reflect together on what it means for TMJ to truly feel like home to more men, from more walks of life. We’ll name what gets in the way. We’ll listen for what wants to emerge.

And as always, there will be chance to step out into the wild - because, as Michael Bassey reminds us: “Nature is the only home there is.”

The details:

  • Location: We are returning to the warm, comfortable and communal Dukes Barn Outdoor Activity Centre which is set in the Peak District.

  • Cost: The cost is flexible ‘pay what you can’. The break-even cost for 33 men is around £185 per man. If some men can pay a little more than this, that allows us to offer others a reduced range of paying between £80 and £185. Any additional amounts (above £185) can be gift aided (for UK taxpayers). The encouragement to offer 'a little more' can of course be ignored by men who make regular donations to The Male Journey!

  • Accommodation and food: We’ll stay at the Dukes Barn Centre, with dormitories offering single and bunk beds. Food and bedding is provided.
